Our Philosophy: Our Body Is a Temple Our Spirit is Resilient We Have Gifts to Share Healthy Relationships Increase Longevity We Are Building Lives Worth Living This Is Our Soulwork Provider Biography-Christina Exum, APRN, PMHNP-BC I'm a Board Certified-Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have lived and worked in the Hill Country of Texas with over 25 years of healthcare background. I have over 4 years of experience as a psychiatric nurse practitioner treating individuals in various settings including an outpatient non-profit mental health clinic, a psychiatric crisis hospital and substance use disorder treatment centers. What We Offer We offer a personalized psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and person-centered plan for improvement of your mental health. Treatment may include psychiatric medication, laboratory diagnostics, and general wellness tools and activities such as improving nutrition, physical activity, and social connection which are all essential to overall mental health. Appointments are conducted in-person with a convenient virtual tele-health option available using a HIPPA compliant video platform. Do you accept insurance? Soulwork Psychiatry is not accepting insurance and is an out-of-network provider. Full payment for services is due at the time of the appointment. We accept flexible spending and health savings cards, visa, mastercard, american express and discover. We are able to provide you with a receipt (also called a super bill) to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Submission of these forms is your responsibility and reimbursement amounts may vary based on the policy. Why do I need to enter my credit card info? Will my card be charged? Payment for services is due in full at the time of the appointment. Your card will not be charged until the time of the appointment. Working these details out in advance allows us to use our appointment time wisely, working on getting to know each other, and you getting the help you came for. What can I expect during my first visit? The initial visit is the psychiatric evaluation. It is typically 1 hour in length. This where we begin to get to know each other and decide on a treatment plan for you and make any necessary referrals. Follow-up visits are 20 minuets for medication management only and 45 minutes for psychotherapy with medication management. Psychotherapy visits are generally once a week at the same day and time for optimal benefit. How long does treatment last? Length of treatment will vary depending on your personal goals and progress. If you are prescribed psychiatric medication, safe prescribing practices require that you meet with your provider at intervals discussed during the appointment in order to monitor your response to the medication and ensure that there are no side effects or other related or unrelated problems emerging. This means you may be asked to make an appointment in order to obtain refills. Is talking to a mental health professional uncomfortable? You may experience uncomfortable feelings at times. On the other hand, experiencing these uncomfortable feelings and learning to tolerate distress can have long term benefits and may result in overall reductions in levels of distress. Medication is not a cure all and there will be other work required of a person who desires true change in their life. We are here to support and guide you in that change. What do I do in case of a psychiatric emergency? If a true emergency situation arises, please call 911 or go to any local emergency room. You may also reach out to the national suicide hotline at 1-800-273-8255. Do you do disability evaluations or other legal paperwork? Our practice is limited to clinical treatment only, so we don’t produce disability or other legal reports. Our records are quite limited in order to protect your confidentiality and would not support an application for disability or other legal requirements. What is your cancellation policy? Cancellations and re-scheduled appointments may be subject to the full appointment fee if not received at least 24-hours in advance. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. As a courtesy our office sends appointment reminders via text message and email. Appointments may be rescheduled to any other available time in the same week with at least 24 hours notice. Fees will not be charged for any days your provider is not in the office or your local public schools are closed due to inclement weather. If you need to cancel greater than 24 hours in advance you may do so by calling 830-433-5113 (leave a voice mail or send a text-SMS rates may apply). * Student and sliding scale rates available by request only and based on availability
